Job Description for the Product Documentation and Communications Expert

Do you write well and understand software development?  We are looking for a high-energy, detailed oriented person with exceptional writing, research and organizational ability to author and maintain the technical user guide to our software platform.  This individual will work with product managers, developers, quality assurance analysts and trainers to communicate complex technical information clearly, concisely and accurately to our internal and external customers.

Core Responsibilities of the Product Documentation and Communications Expert

  • Create the authoritative technical user guide to our software platform for internal stakeholders
  • Create and drive adoption of a technical glossary that standardizes system naming conventions across the organization
  • Work with Product Managers to refine product communications to ensure consistency and quality in all new feature announcements
  • Develop pre-release and release notes
  • Maintain and update authoritative technical guide as new features are released (leveraging Atlassian Confluence or similar shared collaboration tool)
  • Help drive product roadmap ideas by finding new ways to improve the work of our customers and colleagues via technology

Qualifications of the Product Documentation and Communications Expert

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written.  Candidates must submit two writing samples and specify which parts he/she wrote. Examples of what we are looking for: functional requirements, product marketing materials, use cases, user guides.
  • 2 plus years of professional writing experience (preferably technical writing experience)
  • BA/BS Degree
  • Basic understanding of software development life cycles and methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of UX (User Experience), UI (User Interface) and tools to gain insights on users such as ethnographic research videos, NPS in-app polling, etc.
  • Wiki creation using Atlassian Confluence
  • Agile process familiarity
  • Relevant Adobe tools including Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier
